Vienna after Vista

by Nikola Strahija on January 23rd, 2006 While the rest of the world is still waiting for Windows Vista to ship out, Microsoft has already changed the codename of the next distribution – twice. Its Vienna instead of Blackcomb now!

-This does not reflect a big change for us; we have used city codenames in the past, which are derived from cities/locations in the world known for great 'vistas' - the kinds of places we all want to see, experience and that capture the imagination, said Microsoft.

Those who are in computer business for a longer period will remember other place related Windows OS codenames. The first was Sparta for Windows for Workgroups 3.1, second Daytona for Windows NT 3.5, then it went to Cairo for Windows NT 4.0, Chicago for Windows 95, Memphis for Windows 98 and at last Whistler for Windows XP.

The date of Vienna's release is yet to be revealed.
