Microsoft Windows 2000 RDP DoS Vulnerability

Windows 2000 Server and Advanced Server are subject to a denial of service condition. Submitting multiple malformed packets to the RDP services port will cause the server to crash, any unsaved data will be lost.

A restart of the server is required in order to gain normal functionality.

Successful exploitation of this vulnerability could assist in further attacks against the victim.

Microsoft has released a patch which rectifies this issue:

Discovered by Yoichi Ubukata and Yoshihiro Kawabata and posted in a Microsoft Security Bulletin (MS01-006) on Jan 31, 2001.
