WMF patch ready for download
by Nikola Strahija on January 6th, 2006 Hundreds of millions of Windows users can breathe deeply once they download and install a fresh out of the oven patch number 06-001, which will protect them against the WMF hole in Windows' image-rendering engine that could allow a hacker complete control of their computers.
Many users as well as security experts still stay cross with Microsoft, because their response time was too slow, it took them 11 days (from 27 December) to make and dispatch the bug plug. Some users took their chances and applied third pary patches.
Those running Windows Server Update Services will receive the update automatically. The update is also supported by Microsoft Baseline Security Analyzer 2.0, Systems Management Server, and Software Update Services.
Consumers who use Automatic Updates will receive the update automatically. Users also can manually download the update from Microsoft Update or Windows Update.
