Vicious Trojan alert issued by the UKs police

by Nikola Strahija on August 15th, 2004 UK police issued an alert to it's citizens regarding e-mails that appear to be details of a fictitious order for Web hosting or computer goods. These e-mails contain a link to Mitglieder proxy Trojan.

United Kingdom citizens who use online banking were recently alerted to be very careful when receiving and reading e-mails that appear to be details of a fictitious order for Web hosting or computer goods and have a link on which the invoice and order can be found in more detail. When the victim tries to connect to that web site, it appears to be under construction, but in reality a Mitglieder proxy Trojan is downloaded onto their computers, exploiting the well known Windows security problems, such as MHTML URL vulnerability (Microsoft Security Bulletin #MS04-013) and an ADODB.Stream vulnerability (both of which can easily be fixed with the latest Internet Explorer megapatch - Microsoft Security Bulletin #MS04-025).

The keystroke logging program then records victims passwords and PIN numbers when they use their online banking service and so hackers gain open door invitation for using the people accounts and money.

It is yet unknown how many of the Brits have been infected by this.
