University against 'badware'

by Nikola Strahija on January 25th, 2006 Harvard and Oxford University have erected a hall of shame on a website, naming webs that traffic spyware or questionable forms of adware.

The new Stop Badware Coalition at will highlight individuals, vendors or businesses which propagate and promote "badware".

The Stop Badware Coalition expects to make its first posting naming in a month. -We'll point out that there are a lot of things that are not illegal but may be unscrupulous, John Palfrey, co-director of the Coalition said.

While a lot of webs promoting badware are still doing nothing illegal, The Stop Badware Coalition will make a step forward in pulling out spyware and the worst forms of adware so it will no longer be allowed to hide in the shadows of the Internet.

One underlying concern about badware, the Coalition’s organizers agree, is that people are starting to retreat from using the Web as their worry about spyware and adware grows.
