Two more Excel vulnerabilities

by Nikola Strahija on June 22nd, 2006 It's a hard couple of days for Microsoft Office Excel. Not one but three serious vulnerabilities were found in the popular spreadsheet software, all three remain unpatched.

After the first flaw, the second one came out of the blue, enabling attackers one other way, similar to the first one, to execute malicious code using Excel. The users have to click on a hyperlink and sometimes even dismiss a warning window, so this flaws are not considered critical.

The third Excel flaw emerging also involves clicking on a hyperlink, but it also employs Excel ability to integrate Flash into spreadsheets. Once opened, the maliciously crafted Excel document will use the flash technology to execute code.
