Sue spammers

by Nikola Strahija on December 28th, 2005 Nigel Roberts, a UK citizen, used the EU E-Privacy Directive law to win a spam lawsuit against Falkirk-based Media Logistics. By winning 300 pounds he became the first person in the country to use European legislation to defeat spammers.

After receiving unsolicited email advertising a contract car firm and fax broadcasting business, Roberts complained to the company, and also used section seven of the aforementioned Directive to force the company to reveal how it had obtained his contact details without his consent.

Media Logistics, although it apologized, refused to pay him compensation, so Roberts made a symbolic claim for damages to the Small Claims Court. -This may be a tiny victory but perhaps now spammers will begin to realize that people don't have to put up with their e-mail inboxes being filled with unwanted junk,' Roberts was reported as saying reaching the agreement.
