Phishing on the rise

by Nikola Strahija on January 28th, 2006 With computing systems becoming more and more secure, the biggest IT and computer security problem starts to be the human factor, IBM stated in its Security Threats and Attack Trends Report for 2005.

Criminals have a hard time trying to bypass various security obstacles, so they are turning to users as a weaker link. So more specialized, namely phishing, attacks have surfaced in the last year. Information theft attempts such as phishing now made up in one in every 304 emails intercepted by the IBM company, up from the previous year’s figure of one in every 943 emails.

Users would be targeted going forward, because they presented the easiest way to initiate and cloak attacks, most of which now came from organized crime, IBM thinks.
