MS Word allows network infiltration

by Nikola Strahija on May 21st, 2006 A previously unknown vulnerability in Microsoft Word lends a hand to all hackers wanting to enter corporate networks.

SANS has issued a warning about a bug in MS Word which allows e-mails with specially crafted .doc attachments to install Trojans on corporate networks. All the attacks come from China and Taiwan.

The bug has been confirmed in MS Word 2003, which is completely vulnerable, while MS Word 2000, although it crashes when attacked, does not allow code execution.
