Microsoft Windows Standard Output System Crash

by Phiber on October 29th, 2001 If certain combinations of special "whitespace" characters are output in the console to standard output, a user could successfully crash a Windows NT, 2000 or XP system.


Vulnerable:

- Microsoft Windows 2000 (to SP2)

- Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 (SP1 to SP6a)

- Microsoft Windows XP


Exploit example:

Solution:

Currently, there are no Vendor supplied patches/fixes.
