Microsoft Windows SCM race condition vulnerability

by Mario Miri on May 13th, 2003 Service Control Manager (SCM) behaves in incorrect manner during the system shutdown in some cases. If services do not shutdown in specified time limit, a race condition attack could expose some sensitive administration data from those services.

Microsoft Windows XP Home SP1
Microsoft Windows XP Home
Microsoft Windows XP Professional SP1
Microsoft Windows XP Professional


Solution:
Currently there are no vendor supplied patches.
Reportedly, this issue will be adressed in Microsoft Windows Server 2003.
