Image spam on the rise

by Nikola Strahija on June 28th, 2006 With e-mail filters becoming more sophisticated, the obnoxious spammers had to find a new way to send their penis-enlargement and other unsolicited adverts.

Spammers around the world are starting to send spam .jpg and .gif images in order to get their messages through filters. Spammers actually started to toy with this practice over a year ago, but it gained momentum only recently, and today over 12% of spam are images.

Spammers also buy massive amounts of domains, which are never paid for and remain valid for 5 days only. This practice helps them to send their (estimated) 55 billion spam messages a day.
