GKrellM Newsticker remote command execution vulnerability

by Mario Miri on May 13th, 2003 GKrellM Newsticker is prone to a remote command execution attacks. Shell metacharacters are not sanitized from the user supplied URI. Since the browser is launched with this supplied URI, arbitrary command execution in the context of the user running newsticker software is possible.

Solution:
Debian has released an advisory (DSA 294-1) which addresses this issue. Please see the attached advisory for details on obtaining and applying fixes.
