Fake Google Toolbar delivers malware

by Nikola Strahija on July 20th, 2006 A British security company discovered another fraud using the search-giant name.

SurfControl, a UK based security company, discovered yesterday that an e-mail pretending to come from Google is seeding the online world with as much malware as possible.

Many users started receiving e-mails yesterday, saying that there's a new Google Toolbar version ready to download, with a link to the download site. Once users clicked on the link, they were taken to a genuine looking Google Toolbar website, which offered download of the newest version of the toolbar.

Unfortunately, the downloaded file, once installed, infects the computer with a Trojan malware which turns user's computer into zombie machines (sending spam, deploying DDoS attacks etc.)
