Bagle PCs Updated
by Nikola Strahija on April 18th, 2006 Bagle virus infected PCs were busy over the Easter weekend – downloading the latest updates for a new spam tool, F-Secure warns.
The so-called Bagle spam gang uploaded the new spam tool on a server in Slovakia over the weekend and sent an order to all Bagle-infected PCs to download it.
Mikko Hypponen, chief research officer for F-Secure, compaired this to Windows update: -This is the way virus writers can upgrade the infected machines. It's like Microsoft Windows update for viruses.'
The website in Slovakia, which hosted the download link, had it buried deep, so even the owners knew nothing about it. The link has been taken down, only to reappear on a French site hosted in the United States, Hypponen warned. Although F-Secure contacted the iNternet service provider, this link is still active.
