AOL Messenger hit by bot

by Nikola Strahija on May 2nd, 2006 A small encrypted bot, ready to turn computers into zombies is waiting for users in a link sent through AIM.

Specially crafted and encrypted bot is trying to spread through America Online Instant Messenger (AOL IM), pretending to be a link in an innocent message.

SANS institute issued a warning on Sunday evening, warning users: -A bot was seen spreading via AOL Instant Messenger (AIM) earlier today that appears to be using "encrypted" peer-to-peer (P2P - possibly Waste?) as the Command and Control (C&C) mechanism. The bots communicate with each other via port 8/TCP. '

AOL is blocking few of the URL-s where bot might be hiding. Although it warns users not to click on links in messages, AOL thinks that this bot is not a significant threat to its IM members.
