A Trojan in Firefox extension

by Nikola Strahija on July 27th, 2006 Mozilla Firefox users are being targeted with a nasty password stealing Trojan, which comes packed in a Firefox extension.

Downloader-AXM Trojan, if already present on a computer, will download another Trojan - FormSpy, which installs itself as a Firefox extension, renaming itself to NumberedLinks 0.9, a feature that should enable users to select their links using a keyboard, security vendor McAfee reports.

Needles to say, FormSpy does not deliver any benefits: it sends information displayed in browser window to other sites, efficiently stealing passwords, credit card numbers and other sensitive information. McAfee says that FormSpay has an ability to steal e-mails, FTP passwords and ICQ service.
