A new menace has sprung recently, called Rbot-GR, the worm that can use webcams and
microphones attached to user’s computer to spy on them. |

It is spread through network shares, and exploits numerous Microsoft
security vulnerabilities to drop a backdoor Trojan horse program on unguarded computers. As every other Trojan, this too enables the attacker to do whatever he likes – and more. Rbot-GR comes pre-loaded with functions designed to control webcam and microphones. Furthermore, the worm targets to steal registration information for games and PayPal passwords.
Graham Cluley, senior technology consultant for Sophos, a leading AV firm explains: - If your computer is infected and you have a webcam plugged in, then everything you do in front of the computer can be seen, and everything you say can be recorded. It would be like having a regular Web cam conversation except you wouldn't know you're taking part in it."
After all of this has been said, here are some good news: Rbot-Gr Trojan is applicable only on machines using Windows, and hasn’t spread widely yet, so leading antiviral experts have received only a few reports from people whose computers were infected.
