OpenOffice.org insecure

Posted by: Ivana Strahija on August 12, 2006

Researchers state that OpenOffice.org, a free alternative to Microsoft Office suite, is
suffering from at least four major vulnerabilities.
The French Ministry of Defense computer security experts have researched the OpenOffice.org and found that this software is even more vulnerable to viruses and exploits than the one from Microsoft. They base their conclusion on four different proof-of-concept viruses they've managed to slip through OpenOffice.org security.

One of the biggest problems in OpenOffice.org is in fact its programming, which is made to be as flexible as possible and thus does not perform as many security checks as it should, researchers say.

They have contacted the OpenOffice.org team with their findings who have already plugged one hole in the software. Both teams are working on improving the security of the free software.

Our advice is to upgrade your version of OpenOffice.org and also pay attention to security advisories we bring from various software vendors.
