	Rootkits on the rise

	Number of rootkits is on the rise. McAfee Labs say that the number of rootkits used by malicious attackers to hide various software grew 700 percent in the first quarter, compared to the same time last year.

	Mcafee found 827 different rootkits in the first four months, which is even more than it found for whole last year. Security experts presume that cooperation amongst hackers, numerous websites and blogs containing root codes and binary executables all helped rootkits to spread and become even more difficult to detect and get rid of. But, not only hackers and other malicious undergrounders are using rootkits to hide their codes. So do some of the well known companies, as we all remembered Sony and Symantec, although McAfee Labs do not agree with calling such 'cloaking' techniques rootkits too. The only way to stop the fast growth and spread of rootkits is with the coming of Windows Vista, McAfee thinks.
